Today, we bring you Youth Hat Trends, the third article in the Autumn/Winter 2019 style series where we talk about children’s hats.
As we know, this season has three overarching trends.
The first style for the A/W ’19 season is full of radical self-expression through bold fabrics, metallic, glitter, sequins, etc.
The next trend consists of a daring color palette inspired by nature with chunky details and trims.
The final style focuses on sustainability with recycled materials and vintage looks updated for the 21st century.
Check out our blog from the previous weeks where we covered women’s and men’s styles. Next week, we will go over athleisure headwear, so don’t forget to check back on Monday.
It’s not too late to review and prepare for Spring/Summer 2019 as well.
Girls
Caps
For girls, you’ll see a lot of bling. Rainbow colors are really popular, as well as light colored denims, tie-dyes, and floral embroidery.
Patterns and Graphics
Generic camo, florals, and positive messages are common. Graphics include hearts, arrows, birds, pineapples, watermelon, stars, cacti, unicorns, dinosaurs, emojis, mermaids, and planets.
Cold Weather
Poms remain popular for girls in colorful yarns and faux furs. Cable knits, patches, heathering, and beanies with cuffs are all common. You can expect to see a lot of penguins and bling.
Boys
Caps
You’ll see a lot of caps derived from adult headwear lines including heathered fabrics, generic camo, 5-panel caps, and sublimated looks. Blacks, blues, and neutrals dominate the boys’ market.
Patterns and Graphics
As always, generic camo is going to be huge. You’ll also see a lot of geometric shapes, stripes, and tie-dye. Common motifs include space, bugs, dinosaurs, food, and sharks.
Cold Weather
Believe it or not, poms are really popular in boy’s styles too. You’ll see a lot of green, stripes, generic camo, heathering, and beanies with cuffs. Pizza imagery is common in this market.
Toddlers
The trends for kids caps trends extend to toddlers as well. Boy’s hats consist of primary colors and neutral tones, girl’s hats use bright, happy pastels with an emphasis on shades of pink.
Girls
You’ll see a lot of floral looks as well as positive taglines. Common character imaging includes sweets, butterflies, flamingos, dinosaurs, unicorns, and birds.
Boys
Space is a very popular theme this season, but you can also expect to see dinosaurs, bugs, sharks, food, and positive messaging.
