Athleisure Hat Trends: Autumn/Winter 2019

November 26, 2018 - By Emily Potter

Welcome to the final article in our four-part trend series. This post will cover stylish athleisure hats meant for an active lifestyle.

There are three high-level trends this season.

The first style for the A/W ’19 season is full of radical self-expression through bold fabrics, metallic, glitter, sequins, etc.

The next trend consists of a daring color palette inspired by nature with chunky details and trims.

The final style focuses on sustainability with recycled materials and vintage looks updated for the 21st century.

Over the past month, we have covered hat trends for women, men, and youth. It’s not too late to review and prepare for Autumn/Winter 2018.

We will continue to keep you up to date with future trends biannually. So, keep an eye out later this year for the Spring/Summer 2020 series.

Forecasting for pulls from the athleisure or activewear phenomenon we’ve all experienced in recent years.

Black, white, and grey dominate with bright accent colors. Reflective and performance fabrics are imperative for safety and comfort. Floral or geometric patterns are often mixed with motivational sayings. Sublimation is common as well as visor shapes.

This market combines the outdoors with athletic clothing. It consists of both earth tones and bright colors. Performance fabrics are used to keep up with vigorous outdoor activities. You can expect to see a lot of cable knits with poms and small brand hits.

Cold Weather

Headbands and ear warmers are popular in addition to traditional beanie shapes. You’ll see some caps with cutouts for ponytails. Bright colors are still popular. Reflective and heathered materials are very common with small hits of branding.

Reflective fabrics are important for the safety of night and early morning runners. You’ll see a lot of lightweight performance fabrics with perforation.

Earth tones, blacks, greys, and heathered looks are common with bright accent colors. Motivational sayings with bold text and oversized logos are popular as well as stripes and generic camo.

Team caps are more high-end retail oriented with vintage looks and embellishments like denim, leather, metallic pieces, and poms.

Outletic

Generic camouflage and stripes are common in this market as well. You can expect predominately earth tones, tonal blacks, and greys with some brighter colors mixed in. Heathered and performance fabrics with perforation are common. You’ll also see some brim shapes and foldable, packable visors.

Cold Weather

The colors for cold weather caps are mostly black and grey. Lightweight performance fabrics are key here. Reflective and heathered elements are used with small branding hits.

This is the final article in the A/W ‘19 blog series. We will continue to visit the topic of trend guides twice a year for each upcoming season. As we stated before, we work several seasons ahead so that merchandise has time to go to market.
