June 10, 2019 - By Emily Potter

Welcome to the first article in a three-part trend series. This post will cover women’s caps and trends for the Spring/Summer 2020 seasons.

A few months ago, we covered the Autumn/Winter 2019 seasons. We always strive to stay ahead of the trends so you’re well prepared for what’s coming next.

There are three high-level trends for this season.

The first style for the S/S ’20 season is full of recycled materials and other renewable resources that cause less harm and provide more help. With the popularity of CBD and other cannabis products. comes a rise in hemp materials.

The next trend consists of products with a political or social message. Did you know 57% of consumers will either buy from or boycott a brand due to their beliefs?

The final style focuses on emotional connections to people and products whether they are manufactured or organic.

Over the next few weeks, we will discuss the season’s trends for men and youth, so check back every Monday for updates.

But first – the women’s caps!

Women’s Caps: Style and Personality

Sun and Style

You’re going to see a lot of traditional straw hats with decorative bands or patterned ribbons. Fashion shapes stay in an earthy color palette; we’re seeing a lot of black for the season.

Ponytail ball caps and visors are both popular among women who have long hair. You can also expect perforation and reflective elements for comfort and safety.

Country Boutique

While it will always be prevalent in this category, this season designs are shying away from bling and opting for other decoration methods like bold frayed patches, heavy stitching and embroidery. The theme is southwestern; you’ll see a lot of cacti, cow skulls, and campers.

Outdoorsy

The 5-panel trucker is back with a vengeance. You’ll see a ton of foam sublimated fronts with mesh back panels, as well as the dad hat shape. Color blocking, contrast stitching, and metallic prints are common here with pinks and teals dominating the market. Tropical prints, oversized flowers, and mountain scenery is to be expected.

Surf & Skate

By the looks of this season, surf dominates. Tropical patterns, pineapples, waves, and oversized flowers are everywhere. We’re expecting to see a lot of gender-neutral caps that will appeal to both sexes. Geometric prints, and metallic elements are also popular with a lot of black for the season.

Women’s Caps: Decoration Elements

Graphics

As far as graphic and decoration go, this season gives off a distressed, retro vibe with 70s style national park logos and vintage fonts. Graphics are often circular shaped with nature scenes, trails, rivers, and sunsets with southwestern elements. Taglines revolve around sports, coffee, and alcohol-filled weekends.

Trim and Details

Frayed patches, leather patches, and sublimated patches are very popular among women. Crystals and faux gems are replacing the rhinestone look. Chain stitch embroidery and heavy decorative stitching are both prevalent. We’re seeing a lot of gingham and patchwork patterns as well as summer stripes and iridescent looks.
