Return of the Dad Hat We just finished up our trend series for the Spring/Summer 2018 seasons, we covered Women 1, Men 2, Youth 3, and Athleisure 4. For the past several seasons we've noticed a particular headwear trend from the 1990s making a noteworthy comeback—the Dad Hat. You've heard us mention dad hats in a couple editions of the weekly Round-Up in November 5 and December 6. If you remember back to our Evolution of the Hat 7 blog from last summer, we discussed how in the 90s, hat aficionados started slicing out the buckram 8 so that the crown would lie naturally relaxed against their heads. Cap manufacturers quickly took notice and released the first unstructured cap, which later evolved into the dad hat we know and love today. The dad hat is a traditional 6-panel unstructured cap. It's usually made of a heavy washed cotton or other weathered fabric with small hits of branding on the front, side, and/or back. I'm sure you've heard of the infamous Dad Jeans, which hold a severely negative connotation. They're not attractive and no one looks good in them. Dad hats are not like that; they're comfortable and stylish. And they're not just for dads; they look good on everyone regardless of age or gender, including celebrities 9. Even model, Kendall Jenner, wore a dad hat last weekend at the California music festival, Coachella 10. As we know, fashion comes and goes in cycles. We've seen a lot of the popular trends from then 90s making their way back into pop culture. Everything from chokers, to washed denim, to flannels tied around the waist, and now dad hats, all of these things are back in style for 2017. What are you waiting for?
